Principal Investigator
JIJIAN XU, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of the Department of Chemistry
City University of Hong Kong
Prof. Xu specializes in advanced electrolytes and novel electrode materials for high-energy batteries.
He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers in Nature, Science, Nature Energy (2), Nature Synthesis, Nature Reviews Chemistry, Nature Communications, Joule, and Advanced Materials. He holds 15 patents (including US and PCT) and has commercialized his innovations.
Prof. Jijian Xu obtained both his B.S. and Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2014 and 2019, respectively. After a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship under Prof. Chunsheng Wang, he was appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Maryland. In 2023, he joined the City University of Hong Kong and started his research group.
Prof. Xu is actively involved in a wide range of professional services to the research communities and society.

The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$344,400 (approximately US$44,150) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,400 (approximately US$1,840) per year for each awardee, for a period of up to three years.
We welcome applications from highly motivated students worldwide with strong interests in chemistry, materials science, or energy science and engineering.
Given the highly competitive nature of the institutional nomination process, applicants are expected to have a strong academic record, typically including first-author publication(s) or substantial research contributions, a GPA of 90/100 or above, and excellent English proficiency (TOEFL ≥ 100 or IELTS ≥ 7.0). Candidates with an undergraduate degree from C9 League universities or Global top 100 institutions are particularly encouraged to apply.

Flexibility for Exceptional Talent

In our lab, you will lead projects with autonomy and contribute to the team’s collective goals in a professional, efficient working environment. Salary is competitive and in line with Hong Kong’s postdoctoral scale.
