On September 4, 2026, Prof. Jijian Xu was selected as a 2026 Asian Young Scientist Fellow in Physical Sciences. He is the only scholar from Hong Kong among the 12 fellows selected across Asia this year.
The AYSF Committee recognized Prof. Xu’s research focusing on advanced battery materials and electrolytes for sustainable energy technologies. AYSF will support his research on reversible multi-electron conversion chemistry for high-energy batteries.

The team has recently made progress toward this goal through studies published in Nature Energy and Nature Communications, demonstrating reversible three-electron redox chemistry in sulfur- and selenium-based systems and showing how electrolyte chemistry can be used to activate and stabilize high-valent chalcogen reactions.

With support from the AYSF, the LETS Group will continue to investigate fundamental chemical questions in high-energy batteries, with particular interest in stabilizing high-valent states, enabling reversible multi-electron reactions, and developing new pathways toward next-generation high-specific-energy batteries.
The Asian Young Scientist Fellowship supports outstanding early-career scientists in pursuing creative and potentially transformative fundamental research. Fellows are selected annually across Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Mathematics and Computer Science. Each fellow receives US$100,000 in research funding over two years, together with opportunities for scientific exchange within the AYSF community.
